Tuberculosis EnglischTuberculosis (TB) is the most common infectious disease in the world. One third of the world population - around two billion people - are carriers of the mycobacterium tuberculosis. Only 5 - 10% of them will ever fall ill. Poverty, bad living conditions and malnutrition are the key factors and the main cause for the spread of the disease. People from Asia, Africa and the Middle East have the highest risk to get TB. This brochure gives a critical overview about the global TB situation and the global strategies against multidrug-resistant forms of TB, identifies the reasons for the lack of drug research and highlights strategies for effective eliminiation of tuberculosis worldwide.
